Tenure-Track Assistant Professor for Counselor Education Position West Chester University

Responsibilities Include:

  • Teaching graduate counselor education courses, with a specific focus on school counseling coursework and core counseling courses
  • Providing supervision of school counseling students
  • Developing a defined research program
  • Advising students
  • Serving the University and the community through participation in various committees and professional counseling organizations

The typical course load involves teaching three courses per semester. Department programs are typically offered in a face-to-face format; online and hybrid classes may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate in Counselor Education, or
  • An earned doctorate in a closely related field with five years of experience as a professional school counselor within the last 10 years
  • ABD candidates will be considered with evidence of completion prior to the date of appointment
  • Previous work experience as a professional school counselor
  • School counseling professional activities including sustained memberships in professional organizations, maintenance of counseling certifications/licenses, advocacy for the profession, professional development, and/or scholarly activity
  • Demonstrated interest in, and promise of, an active program of research
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the profession

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctorate from a CACREP-accredited Counselor Education and Supervision program
  • Experience teaching graduate-level school counseling coursework
  • Experience teaching other graduate-level CACREP coursework
  • PA certification as a professional school counselor (or equivalent school counseling certification/license in another state)
  • Demonstrate knowledge of current issues and trends within the field of professional school counseling
  • Experience supervising school counseling fieldwork students
  • Experience working with diverse populations and advancing equity, inclusion, and diversity in the field
  • A record of scholarship in the professional counseling field, commensurate with experience

George School: Bucks County PA

School Counselor :Full-time

George School, a Quaker boarding/day grades 9-12 college preparatory school located in Newtown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, seeks a school counselor. The school counselor is a full-time, 10-month academic year position. The school counselor helps students manage different mental and emotional challenges through short-term counseling interventions and community resource coordination. 


  • Support the Director of Counseling Services in delivering short-term counseling services that foster the academic, personal and social development of students grades 9-12.
  • Perform crisis counseling as needed.
  • Maintain counseling records in the Magnus student health database. 
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings between the SHWC and the Deans Office.  
  • Maintain a roster of and relationship with local therapists for student referral. 
  • Attend all Advisory Council, Early Intervention, and SHWC meetings. 
  • Consult and work closely with the Learning Center to support the needs of students with learning differences. 


  • Endorsement as a school counselor/social worker/qualified mental health professional in Pennsylvania preferred.
  • Master’s degree preferred. 
  • Demonstrated experience working with adolescents.
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality. 
  • Commitment to the traditions and philosophy of a Quaker educational community and a working style consistent with Quaker values. 
  • Ability to articulate and tactfully handle inquiries from students, parents, faculty, and staff.
